Um dos projetos de longo prazo mais importantes da Eco Caminhos é a Agrofloresta. E o primeiro passo dela já está sendo executado pela equipe chefiada pelo engenheiro florestal Bruno Nirello. O início da Agrofloresta foi dado com o plantio de Margaridão (Tithonia diversifolia). A ideia é utilizar os nutrientes da planta para melhorar a qualidade do solo.
“Após ser podada e aplicada em hortas e no solo da nossa Agrofloresta, o Margaridão ajuda na obtenção de nitrogênio, potássio, cálcio e magnésio”, explicou Bruno, que também falou sobre os planos de utilizá-lo já no inverno. “Como ele é uma planta do verão, agora ele não vai se desenvolver muito, mas já estamos plantando para que eles estejam preparados para serem usados quando a sua estação chegar”.
Outra função interessante do Margaridão para a Agrofloresta foi explicada pela agrônoma Anastacia Almeida. “Apesar dele ser uma espécie exótica da América Central, ele vem com o maior propósito de trazer biomassa para a Agrofloresta. Além disso, por ter abundância de flores, ele traz muitos polinizadores, tais como as abelhas. E isso faz com que aumente a biodiversidade e também proporciona mais autonomia à Agrofloresta”.
O primeiro processo utilizando o Margaridão na Agrofloresta da Eco Caminhos foi feito durante as últimas semanas. Além da equipe ter plantado centenas de mudas por meio de estaquias, parte dos Margaridões colhidos foram moídos e utilizados para adubar a horta local e preparar o solo que será utilizado para as próximas etapas do projeto.
Depois do Margaridão, Bruno já tem em mente quais serão os próximos passos da Agrofloresta da Eco Caminhos. “Por causa do inverno, plantaremos tremoço (sementes das plantas fabáceas, conhecidas por tremoceiro, do gênero Lupinus) e aveia preta (Avena strigosa Schreb). O tremoço tem a mesma função do margaridão, mas se desenvolve melhor no inverno. Já a aveia preta, que também é de inverno, é uma gramínea forrageira que fixa bastante fósforo”, explicou.
