Os hábitos e o exemplo de amigos, parentes e colegas de trabalho são determinante para a adoção de atitudes relacionadas à sustentabilidade no dia a dia, diz o estudo Caminhos para Estilos Sustentáveis de Vida. Foram entrevistados homens e mulheres de diferentes idades e classes sociais. A metade deles tinha algum engajamento nesse tipo de prática e a outra metade, não. A pesquisa mapeou nove fatores que propiciam a incorporação de atitudes sustentáveis e seis situações que dificultam a mudança do modo de vida. O lançamento marca o Dia do Consumo Consciente, celebrado hoje (15 de outubro).
De acordo com o resultado das entrevistas, para se sentir parte de um grupo, a pessoa tanto pode adotar ações em prol da sustentabilidade quanto evitar mudança de hábitos. “Tanto atrapalha quanto ajuda muito quando a pessoa consegue se sentir parte de um grupo. Quando se fala de um grupo, não é necessariamente família. É um grupo de amigos, de trabalho, é a escola dos filhos”, ressaltou a gerente de Comunicação do Instituto Akatu, Gabriela Yamaguchi. O Akatu é uma organização não governamental que trabalha pela conscientização da sociedade para o consumo consciente.
Entre os fatores que influenciam positivamente na prática de atitudes sustentáveis foram identificados: a possibilidade de tais ações tornarem a vida mais simples, o balanço positivo da mudança de hábito, a economia financeira, a praticidade e o conforto, a oportunidade de contribuir para melhorar o mundo, a inspiração em outras pessoas, a sensação de fazer parte de algo maior, a sensação de mudar a própria vida positivamente e a possibilidade de começar com pequenos passos.
Entre os empecilhos, foram citados a percepção de desconforto com as novas práticas, os obstáculos físicos (idade, saúde ou condição física), limitações do espaço da residência, preço mais alto, valorização cultural da limpeza (obstáculo à redução da frequência do uso de água e energia) e percepção de isolamento.
Segundo o estudo, a participação na coleta seletiva e a reciclagem são atitudes que levam as pessoas a começar a se preocupar com o uso racional de recursos. “O primeiro pontapé é a reciclagem, o trato adequado dos resíduos. As pessoas que já estão com repertório grande entenderam como fazer a reciclagem, já deram o primeiro passo. Elas podem também estar mais abertas a dar os próximos passos”, destacou Gabriela.
O professor do Instituto de Energia e Ambiente da Universidade de São Paulo, Ricardo Abramovay, por sua vez, lembrou que as empresas também têm papel fundamental na adoção de novos hábitos pela população. “As mudanças de comportamento das empresas são determinadas de forma muito forte por aquilo que fazem as pessoas. Corremos o risco, ao falar de mudança de comportamento das pessoas, de inverter essa equação. Como se, dadas as preferências das pessoas, as empresas se adaptam”, explicou Abramovay.
Gabriela também enfatizou esse papel. “Quanto maior a oferta de produtos e serviços sustentáveis pelas empresas, maior pode ser também a adoção pelos consumidores. Eles são viabilizadores das práticas nas casas das pessoas”, disse. Além de oferecer os produtos, ela também ressaltou a importância da comunicação das companhias apontarem as razões de se fazer opções mais sustentáveis. “ A pesquisa tem esse objetivo: Ajudar as empresas que já estão lançando tais produtos para que sejam divulgados de uma maneira que as pessoas entendam a importância dessa troca e dessa escolha”.
