60+ Eco Experience at the Farm (1 day)

Eco Caminhos offers an amazing one-day immersion experience at the farm. You’ll have the opportunity to learn both in theory and practice about permaculture, agroforestry, or bioconstruction. For those who wish, there are some light hands-on experiences. The Eco Farm provides a warm lunch with natural farm products. It’s also possible to book a personalized program where you can plan your own schedule and activities. And if you want the project’s founder, Bart, to provide you with a personalized workshop, consultancy, and farm tour, you can book our premium program.

The Basic Package is for those who do not wish for a personalized program but simply want to enjoy the day at the farm and participate in one of the offered presentations, enjoy a healthy lunch with ingredients from our garden, and engage in some hands-on work in agroforestry and bioconstruction. Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the entrance by one of our staff members, who will guide you to the center of the farm. After a brief welcome, a cup of coffee or tea will be served, and a brief outline of the day will be provided. You will then begin with a presentation on permaculture, followed by a farm tour. At noon, a warm meal made with organic farm ingredients will be served, with several dish options to choose from. After lunch, you can participate in agroforestry or bioconstruction work on the farm, which is a great opportunity for hands-on experience. There will always be someone nearby to guide you. Remember that you can choose which activities you want to participate in or skip.

Our Custom Package is for people who want a personalized farm experience. This is very interesting if you want to learn specific skills from one of the techniques we apply on the farm or if you like being able to choose your own program. You can choose 1 Workshop. Unlike the basic package, we will always ask what you would like to do. We will discuss options before your arrival in a video call so we can plan your activities in advance and tailor them to your interests. Importantly, if you want the founder, Bart, to provide you with intensive personalized training, you will need to book the Premium package. Upon arrival, you will be met at the gate by one of our team members who will take you to your accommodation. After a brief reception, you will be served a cup of coffee or tea, and you will receive an explanation of possible activities. You can then take part in a presentation followed by a tour of the farm. During the tour, you will be able to see the different bioconstructions and agroforestry projects and hear all the details. At noon, a hot meal made with organic ingredients from the farm will be served, with several dish options to choose from. After lunch, you can participate in agroforestry or bioconstruction work on the farm. This is an opportunity to get hands-on experience. There will always be someone around to guide you.

Our Premium Package is for people who want a personalized farm experience and want to be guided by the farm’s founder, Bart. What makes the premium package special is that you will hear all the stories of the farm since its founding and benefit from all the knowledge Bart has accumulated over time. You will also have the opportunity to choose a workshop or have a private consultation. This needs to be booked in advance so we can plan. Upon arrival, you will be met at the gate by one of our team members who will take you to the center of the farm. After a brief reception, you will be served a cup of coffee or tea, and you will receive an explanation of possible activities. After that, Bart will assist you personally. The founder can give a theoretical presentation on permaculture, agroforestry or bioconstruction or can offer private consultancy. If desired, this can be followed by a tour of the farm where he will show you the different bioconstructions and agroforestry projects. You will then start your chosen workshop. At noon, a hot meal made with organic ingredients from the farm will be served, with several dish options to choose from. After lunch, you can participate in agroforestry or bioconstruction work on the farm (that’s up to the workers). This is an opportunity to get hands-on experience. You can also enjoy a guided hike or visit a local waterfall. There will always be someone around to guide you. You can see a schedule for the day’s program here:

Your safety and health

We live in a very safe region in the mountainous region around Fribourg. Now on the farm, we have animals like cows, chickens and dogs. We will also walk on trails during the hike and through our agroforestry systems. Therefore, we recommend that people wear pants (we do not recommend shorts or skirts), bring comfortable walking shoes and a hat for the sun. In case of rain, it’s a good idea to bring a raincoat. For some activities, it is necessary to be in reasonably good physical condition. Of course, we can adjust the program for people with physical limitations. Please let us know in advance if you have any limitations so we can make adjustments.

Bus station/airport transfer

You can get to Eco Fazenda on your own. For people arriving by public transport, we can pick them up at the Nova Friburgo bus station. We charge 200 reais for the round trip from the bus station. Now, if you need transportation from Rio de Janeiro to Nova Friburgo, we organize your transfer (one way) for 900 reais for up to 4 people with our trustworthy driver.

Fiquei muito satisfeita com a experiência, tanto que pretendo retornar para mais atividades. Gostaria de ficar um período maior de tempo, pois uma semana (tempo de férias) foi pouco. Acomodação no Eco Lodge foi maravilhosa. Recomendo. A cesta de produtos foi mais que o informado inicialmente. Equipe parceira, atenciosa, atendimento nota 1.000. I really enjoyed my stay at Eco Caminhos. I stayed there for a month. They have many activities on the schedule split between agroforestry, bioconstruction and fun events like hiking. I went there to learn more about agroforestry and have to say that I learned a lot in just a month. As part of my sabbatical at Asana, I joined The Rainforest Club to spend time reforest and protect the Mata Atlantica in Brasil.

In this capacity we visited Bart @ Eco Caminhos and received a very open and heartful welcome. Bart has been focused on rainforest protection agroforestry and bio-construction for more than 9 years. We were able to learn plentiful from his experience and received a deep insight into his work.

I would recommend Barts project for anyone who wants to spend their time for protecting and rebuilding the rainforest. If you would like to spend time on the farm his bio-constructed villa is a dream for any group to spend an unforgettable time.

Our experience at EcoCaminhos was extremely nourishing and eye opening. I visited with my wife and 6-year-old daughter. We have been studying agroecology, agroforestry, and bioconstruction for some time, mainly online, but also with some practical experiences. However, to experience the daily life of a functioning, productive farm which uses agroforestry principles stimulated us on a whole other level. We are able to participate in the planting and pruning process, together with an intense overview of the theory. Emilia loved feeding the chickens, the bioconstructions and playing with the kids. We left after just over 48 hours feeling like we had been away for a long time. Our thanks go out to Bart, Eliane and Maria for making us feel welcome from the off and always being open for an exchange of ideas. They are all clearly really dedicated to the project. We had an amazing experience at EcoCaminhos. We came to learn hands-on about Agroforestry. Not only did we learn a lot from Bart - a patient and passionate teacher - the experience gave us the confidence to start our own agroforestry project - in that sense truly transformative.

Agroforestry - amazing experience, very educative and engaging. Incredible biodiversity, place is buzzing with life.

Accommodation - Bioconstructed ecolodge is spacious, comfortable and clean. A very special experience to stay there.

Team - Lovely, accommodating team of fulltime workers and volunteers. Mix of English, Portuguese and Spanish speakers

Food - No place in Brazil has better food: tasty, fresh and pure, straight out of the ground.

Eco Caminhos tarjoaa mahdollisuuden poikkeukselliseen lomailuun, keskellä vehreää ja rauhallista brasilialaista maaseutua. Sijainti tarjoaa upeat puitteet sekä agroekologiaan tutustumiselle että patikoimiselle vaikuttavissa vuoristomaisemissa. Brasilian hehkeä luonto tulee lähelle ja jo se että herää aamutuimaan lintujen lauluun saa ainakin minut hyvälle tuulelle.
Eco Caminhosissa vakituisesti työskentelevä yhteisö on avulias ja lämminhenkinen. Minun oli helppo osallistua farmin erillaisiin päivittäisiin rutiineihin heidän kanssaan. Työskentely/lomailu Eco Caminhosissa mahdollistaa myös syvempiä pohdiskeluja ruantuotannon, matkailun ja yhteisöllisyyden tulevaisuudesta. Haluatko osallistua uudenlaisten, kestävien matkailu ratkaisujen edistämiseen vai perinteisen hotelliturismin tukemiseen? Itse ainakin äänestän tämän kokemuksen perusteella ensimmäisen vaihtoehdon puolesta :)
